49) Hole in the Ground - Mt. Bike Ride

October 17, 2009

Although this was not a sanctioned event and i considered not count it, after the ride, I decided that it was one of the tougher days I have had in the past 48 events and should be considered.

There were 12 riders in our group and the fastest most experience rider Wade has done this ride in less than 2 hours.  he figuredwith our group it would take 2.5 to 3 hours to complete including stops.

It took me and one other rider almost 5 hours to complete the ride.  It was so technical, roots, rocks, switchbacks, streams, you name it, it had it!

We were separated from the group over the final 255 of the ride and took a wrong turn.  We ended up lost, and made the mistake (cardinal sin) of leaving the trail and climbing up some rocks to see where we were.

We did find our trail again (barely) and backtracked.  Luckily Wade was waiting for up where we had gone wrong and escorted us done the remainder of the ride.

brutal ride, at the end i almost sold my Mt. Bike for $1.  glad I didn't, but if I ever ride the "Hole in the Ground" ride again, "Shoot me", because I'm an idiot.

48) Bridge to Bridge 12K run

October 12, 2009

Bridge to Bridge Run from the Bay Bridge to the Golden Gate bridge along the Embarcadero, Fisherman Wharf, Marina Green, Crissy Field and then finishing on the Presidio Parade Grounds is one of my favorite most beautiful runs anywhere, ever!

To live so close to San Francisco and have the opportunity to run this run is so special.

Last year I did this run as training for the California International marathon and ran it both ways to get in 15 miles.  what a day that was.  Beautiful like this day but double the fun!

The weather was perfect, probably 70 degrees at race start with no wind.   Since I am just finishing up my quest, I cruised today averaging 7:45 per mile.  Still not bad, but not real fast.  I was really enjoying the day and the fact that I was here last year think about all I had set out to accomplish.

Today was a day of reflection and appreciation.  All I have accomplished and enjoyed made today really special.  Unfortunatley, I was out there again, by myself taking it all in.  It has been a special year and I have met a lot of people and done a lot of different events.  Most of all I have come to appreciate that with dedication and focus, anyone can accomplish anything.
